The Garage @ the Y on Lewis Street is a dedicated after-school program designed specifically for middle school students (grades 6–8). It’s a space—with its own identity, time, and energy—where students can truly feel like it’s theirs.

Just like a real garage, it’s a place to tinker, build, create, and hang out. Students can try new things, get a little messy, and bring their ideas to life—all in a safe, supervised environment.

All Middle Schoolers grades 6-8!

The Garage is open weekdays from 3:00–6:00 PM and runs alongside the SFSD school calendar.

On early release days, we’ll open earlier (1pm-6pm) to give students more time to hang out, connect, and dive in.

We also offer:
• Garage Nights/Special Events

As The Garage grows, we may open up additional opportunities—like during school breaks and beyond.

The Garage will take place at The Y on Lewis Street, located at 403 Lewis St Silverton OR.

The Garage is more than just a place to go after school—it’s a hub for connection, creativity, and energy.

Students can:
• Relax & recharge: Café-style lounge, music, games, snacks, and space to just be
• Play & move: Ping pong, spike ball, mini-hoop basketball, bouldering wall, slackline, balance boards, and group games
• Create & explore: LEGO design and engineering, aquaponics and hydroponics, creative builds, and hands-on projects

Through program registration, you’ll be able to pick one of the following tracks.

Membership (Best Value – but limited number capped at 100)

The Garage Membership is the most cost-effective option and includes:

• Unlimited daily access (3–6 PM)
• Access to Garage Nights and discounted special events
• One monthly guest pass to bring a friend
• Youth YMCA membership included (pool access and nationwide YMCA access)

Pricing:

• $60/month (non-Y members — this includes their own Youth YMCA membership)
• $45/month (current YMCA members)

We know schedules change throughout the year, and we want the Garage to work for your family. Families have flexibility to adjust their membership as their student’s schedule changes:

• Pause their Garage membership when they need a break.
• Switch to a $15/month Youth YMCA Membership while they’re less active in The Garage. This will save you $ if you choose to drop in w/o a Garage Membership.
• Students can also continue to enjoy The Garage through punch cards or drop-in opportunities, while still having access to YMCA amenities. Some families may choose to keep their Garage membership active so their student can continue participating in Garage Nights and special events.

Our goal is to give families options that fit their student’s schedule—not make them choose between their busy lives and being part of The Garage.

Your student can always hold their place, and rejoin when their schedule allows.

Yes, please complete the FA webform and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

All students are checked in and out by Garage staff using our system to ensure accurate attendance and safety. Each student has a profile where their participation is tracked.

Check-out follows parent/guardian authorization. Students may be approved for self-checkout, or they will be released to an authorized adult listed on their account.

Our team is always on-site to supervise and ensure students are safe while they’re in The Garage.

The Garage has a stop for ALL schools in the Silver Falls District!

If your child does not normally ride the bus:
The school will need to be notified that your child will be taking the bus to The Garage. Once the regular bus route is established, your child may use the bus to The Garage as often or as little as your family would like.

If your child normally rides the bus to another location:
The school must be notified of the change before 10:00 AM on the specific day your child needs to be dropped off at The Garage.

Yes, teens check in using the YMCA’s computer-based check-in system when they arrive and check out again when they leave. Teens are welcome to complete this independently but staff is always available to help, especially during their first few visits.

The Hive is primarily a teen space. Parents and guardians are welcome to stop in for drop-off and pick-up, but teens who are able to participate independently are expected to use the space without an accompanying adult. Caregivers and direct support staff are always welcome to stay with and support the teen they accompany for as long as needed.

Yes, the Hive is always staffed during open hours.

The Hive is a drop-in program, and teens may leave when they are ready. Parents and caregivers should talk with their teen ahead of time about transportation, pick-up arrangements, and expectations for leaving the YMCA.

Yes, teens may bring and use their own phones or computers during drop-in time, as long as they are being used appropriately and respectfully.

That is completely okay and very common! The Hive is a welcoming place where teens can meet new people and build friendships over time, but there is no pressure to socialize before they are ready. Teens are welcome to join activities, spend time quietly, work on homework, or simply get comfortable in the space at their own pace.
