It will provide you with dynamic skills to manage the energy behind your emotions, so they work for you in supporting your values and goals.  Stop being overwhelmed or afraid of your emotions, and instead, learn to manage, budget, save and invest your emotional energy in a proactive and meaningful way!  You're the master of your emotions; this workshop will give you the tools.

Meditation to Boost Your Well-Being

Shirley Bravo Gonzalez, Bilingual Health Educator at the Community Health Education Center of Salem Health

Meditation is a type of mind-body complementary medicine. It can help you relax deeply and calm your mind, reducing stress and anxiety. By practicing meditation exercises, it can help lower your heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate and levels of cortisol – a hormone released in response to stress. Participants will be guided through appropriate meditation exercises and learn how this process can lead to better physical and emotional well-being.

Biblical Foundations for Mental Health

4:00PM – 5:00PM
Dr. Andrew Kenagy, Psy.D., Clinical Psychologist

We’ve got to start doing things differently. Are you tired of relentlessly and unsuccessfully trying to experience better mental health by feeling better about yourself? Or trying to feel hopeful by looking within yourself? Have your efforts to become the “best version of yourself” left you feeling empty?

The fight for self-esteem is not working. What if you aren’t the answer to your problems? What if you aren’t supposed to be “enough.” What if you aren’t as important as you think you are . . . and that is good news? What if you don’t exist to be made much of, but to make much of that which is greater than yourself? Just go lose yourself in the vastness of the ocean, the beauty of a sunrise, or the majesty of the stars to realize this is true. Humility and awe surround the pathway to peace.

Come explore how a biblical, God-centered (rather than human-centered) worldview is fundamental to finding the kinds of rigorous happiness and satisfaction for which we are all looking when pursuing “mental health.” As an active clinical psychologist, I will demonstrate how you can identify and challenge errant worldview assumptions and help yourself and others discover a worldview that can actually face reality head on with resilience and circumstance-defying peace. Psychological and theological constructs will be considered and integrated in application to common mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. An experiential exercise in awe will also be included.
