Welcome to Camp Greider!

Registration Opens Friday, February 2nd.

Since 1978, YMCA Camp Greider has provided a safe place for campers entering 1st through 8th grades to explore, learn, and grow. Creating memorable, engaging, and educational experiences for campers is our goal and we can’t imagine a better setting than 80-acres of beautiful land in the West Salem Hills.

Throughout a week at Camp Greider your camper will create lifelong memories, develop new friendships, improve their confidence, and build social-emotional skills. Our play-based, nature focused programming will introduce campers to the four core values of the Y: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Located on the Oregon 4-H Center property, Camp Greider includes:

  • Large multi-purpose lodge
  • Small pond for boating and pond study
  • Archery range
  • Open fields for games
  • Miles of hiking trails
  • Heated pool

Camp Greider Goals:

  • Model the YMCA mission and cause for all campers.
  • Help campers increase their sense of self-worth and responsibility.
  • Assist campers with increasing their social skills.
  • Provide the opportunity to learn a variety of traditional camp skills.
  • Expose participants to the natural world in safe and engaging environments.
  • Teach campers they are part of a larger community.
  • Campers will have fun!

Welcome to Camp Greider

Days at Camp Greider

A typical day at Camp Greider allows campers the chance to participate in a variety of outdoor activities similar to those at overnight residential camps including swimming, archery, arts and crafts, gaga ball, hiking, canoeing, outdoor skills, large group games, nature study, kayaking and more. We encourage our staff to think creatively and facilitate activities campers may not have the chance to do in town.

Weekly Themes

Each week has a special theme and on Friday Camp Greider transforms into another world with special games, events, and themed activities to help campers embrace their creative side. Campers may be tracking mythical creatures through the woods, practicing archery to protect camp from a fearsome dragon, or designing their own game destined to be a classic alongside Sorry, Connect 4, and Clue. Costumes and dressing up are welcome and encouraged, but not necessary.

Exceptional Summer Staff

Your camper will be in a group of about 15 children and 2 counselors. Our summer staff is made up of the best young leaders in our area who are dedicated to helping your child have the best week of the summer. Our high school and college aged leaders are selected after undergoing a full interview process including reference and background checks. Before each camp season they complete a full week of training on site at Camp Greider which is focused on child development, program facilitation, and general safety. All Greider staff are First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified and will be following all recommendations by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), American Camp Association (ACA), and Center for Disease Control (CDC).
